Losing Weight on the Lion Diet
If you are a Lion trying to lose weight, you may want to consider yourself
lucky. Numerous medical studies, including one recently in the
Journal
of the American Medical Association (JAMA) say that the Lo-Carb, Hi-protein
diet gives some people the best chance to lose weight. We bet those “some
people” would
test out to be Hauser Lions!
So as a Lion, you need protein and fat, but you
don’t need many carbs.
We know for some people, they still can’t believe a steak will help them
lose weight where a bowl of cabbage soup will make them gain weight! Have you
ever heard someone say, “I don’t eat anything and I still gain
weight?” Believe them!
Another popular dieting myth is that no matter
what you eat, as long as you count calories, you can lose weight. If all you
do is focus on how many calories you’re taking in, as a Lion, you will
not be headed in the right direction. 1200 calories a day is a very low calorie
diet, and will cause weight loss for a while. But if those 1200 calories all
come from whole wheat pasta, vegetables, and fruit is a Lion really being healthy?
No.
What’s on your plate?
If you fill the majority of your plate with protein sources like chicken, fish,
turkey, pork, eggs, tofu, and beef, you are on the right track for losing weight.
Throw a small amount of nutrient dense vegetables on there and you’re
set. This means for every meal…not just dinner. Do you have to be a
Lion all day? Yes! This means snack on nuts…not pretzels, eat some turkey
sticks…not bananas, and drink water not juice.
How much should you eat?
We don’t want you to be hungry. Eat until you are just becoming content,
but not beyond. If you battle hunger, grab for some almost non-caloric foods
like cucumbers, celery sticks, or radishes. The goal is to always eat like
a Lion, so if the these foods don’t quite do it, then you may need to
up the protein or fat. To get more specific information on what that entails,
come in to see us. Losing weight can be tough, mentally and physically, having
guidance and accountability can be priceless.
