How many meals should a Lion eat, and when?

All Lions Need Breakfast
There could be a few different reasons why your Hauser Diet Typing revealed Lion physiology. One of those reasons may have to do with your blood sugars. It is extremely important for Hauser Lions to keep blood sugars steady in order to keep your energy and overall health in check. The best way to get this going in the right direction is to start out with a hearty breakfast. For you, it may very well be the most important meal of the day.

Loading up on carbs in the morning, which are usually the quick on the go foods a lot of people tend to grab, will not give you what you need. Lions metabolize carbs too quickly, especially with their hypoglycemia tendencies! Lions need protein at every meal.

Hearty
Eggs are a great breakfast food for Lions. Add some ham, a little of your favorite cheese, and some chopped veggies to make an awesome omelet. Hard boil some eggs ahead of time and you have an easy grab-and-go meal if you have to.

Steak and Eggs
Heat some steak in a little olive oil, or use what’s left from dinner last night then make a couple of over easy eggs. Put your seasoning of choice on the steak and you have a Lion meal at its best.

Options for Food Allergies
Some of you may have food allergies that really limit your breakfast choices. This is where leftovers come in handy. Having chicken or steak is just as good in the morning as they are at night. Try taking a corn tortilla and wrapping it around strips of steak with a bit of cheese. Or do ½ of a gluten free English muffin with nut butter and a couple slices of bacon or chicken sausage on the side. You are allowed a carb or two per day, so using it at breakfast will help open your options up especially if food allergies have limited them.

Lion Style Protein Shake
Most people think of fruity smoothies as a good choice for breakfast. However, the Lion is a no fruit diet, so we need to rethink this concept. Your morning shake/smoothie should be all protein and fat. Use a couple scoops of your protein powder of choice (whey, soy, rice, egg, etc.), 8 oz of your milk of choice, a couple tablespoons of nut butter, and then try a little flaxseed and/or Coconut Oil. It many not have any fruit, but the nut butter and oils will add the flavor you need that is missing by not having the fruit. A dash of vanilla or almond extract with a sprinkle of cinnamon can change it up a little too.

A Lion’s day is best when started with a high protein and fat meal. Combine any and all of the Lion foods you love. Breakfast doesn’t have to be a sit down meal in order to be nutritious, if you don’t have time. Do what works for you, just keep it in the Lion realm of food and be consistent with it! It will make you feel better. So remember Lions, eat the breakfast of champions in order to feel your best!

Lion Snacks
When talking about snacks, common choices we hear are fruit-both fresh and dried, crackers, pretzels, yogurt, and popcorn. What do all of these foods have in common? They are all largely carbohydrate based foods. The problem here is that as a Lion these are not the first foods you should be choosing to snack on. So what’s left? What to snack on is a question we get from many patients who are put on the Lion diet.

There are many protein/fat based foods that you can snack on; you just need to think outside of the snack box! Here is a list of snacks to keep in mind for those in between meal cravings:

• Nuts - Just be careful of the amount
• Beef Jerky
• Turkey Sticks
• Cottage Cheese or String Cheese
• Protein Bars or shakes - with low sugar content
• Hard Boiled Eggs
