Hauser Diet™ & Diet Typing Appointment Information

The Hauser Diet program is a physician-supervised program, so it requires that all patients requesting Diet Typing first see Dr. Hauser so that your overall health can be reviewed, and a comprehensive natural medicine evaluation be provided to you. Dr. Hauser will give you his plan for your whole health, including helping you figure out what diet is best for you and any other lab tests you might need to help you stay on track with your health throughout your entire life. After you have completed that consultation, you will then go to the laboratory for testing, and finally review the results with the nutritionist. Let us break it down for you a little more:

What to expect when getting Diet Typing at Caring Medical:

1.  What appointments do I need to make?
a.  Appointment with the doctor for an initial consultation.

•  Expect this process to take about 1 hour.
•  To make a new patient appointment, click here

b.  Appointment with the lab for the actual Diet Typing testing.

•  Expect this process to take about 2 to 2 ½ hours.
•  You must be fasting from food for 10-12 hours prior to the test. You may drink water.
•  We recommend bringing something to eat for after you complete the test.

c.  Appointment with the Nutritionist to review your results and get a Hauser Diet Plan.

•  Expect this process to take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your case.
•  Jot down a list of food-related questions that you may have for the nutritionist so we can be sure to answer all of your questions.

2.  When to get tested?
We recommend that you schedule your initial consultation with the doctor first thing in the morning (between 8-9AM), and then get your Diet Typing immediately following that visit. Remember that you must come to the office fasting (no food or beverages for at least 10-12 hours prior, only drink water) The testing takes about 2 hours. Some people want to do it all on the same day, where others want to do the testing and nutritional consultation on another date. It’s up to you!

3.  Testing in the lab on the 4th floor:
a.  Arrival and check-in:

•  If you are coming to the lab on a different day than your initial consultation please arrive to the 4th floor ( suite 400 ) at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time so that you can get situated.
•  As soon as you arrive, please sign in with the receptionist at the front desk of the 4th floor. She will notify the lab that you are here and get the ball rolling. If you are doing your Diet Typing on the same day as your initial consultation with the doctor, we will take you to the lab and help you get set up on that same day
•  You may wish to bring a book or newspaper, some work, or a knitting project to do while you wait.

b.  Lab testing:

•  Our lab technician will bring you back to the lab where she will provide you with instructions on what the plan is for your lab testing.
•  Hauser Diet Typing requires at least one initial tube of blood (sometimes more depending on the lab package your doctor ordered), as well as finger stick glucose tests every 30 minutes for a minimum of 90 minutes.
•  After your first blood draw and glucose check, the lab tech will give you some juice to drink. Remember, now we are testing you for body’s response to carbohydrates, so you will need to drink up that juice in a matter of a few minutes!
•  After that, you will return to the waiting area for 30 minutes. Remember, you cannot eat or drink during this time, as we are testing your body’s physiologic response to the 50 gram glucose (juice) challenge.
•  The lab tech will provide you with a Diet Typing Questionnaire to complete while you are waiting the 30 minutes between glucose checks.
•  Please pay attention to how you feel while you are waiting, as we will be asking you to tell us your symptoms while you are in this state.
•  After 30 minutes, the lab tech will come and get you and bring you back to the lab for another finger stick glucose check. She will also ask you to answer a few questions about how you are feeling. If you have completed the Diet Typing Questionnaire, please return it to the lab tech at that time.
•  You will return to your seat in the waiting room and repeat this process two more times for a total of three finger stick glucose checks after your initial one.
•  After your last glucose level has been drawn, you are free to eat and drink. Most of our patients bring some food and beverage to drink after testing because they have been fasting for so long and are usually very hungry! We recommend you do the same!

c.  Diet Prescription and Nutritional Consultation:

•  After you have completed the Hauser Diet Typing testing, your results will be tabulated and reviewed by the doctor. Basic Diet Typing results will be ready within 30 minutes.
•  If your doctor also ordered Insulin levels, food allergy testing, hormone testing, or other profiles, your full set of results will not be ready for 1-3 weeks, depending on the tests. The lab technician will info rm you about that. For the most optimal results, we recommend waiting for all of the tests to come in before you meet with the nutritionist. However, if you want to get started (knowing that you may have to change something later), feel free to schedule your nutritional consultation for the same day. Please allow at least 30 minutes for the doctor to review your tests and for he and the nutritionist to put your diet package together. This is a good time to have a bite to eat!
•  After the doctor reviews your test results, he will prescribe one of the five Hauser Diets – the Hauser Lion, Otter, Bear, Monkey, or Giraffe Diet Types™. The nutritionist will then consult with you regarding the nuts and bolts of the diet, how to follow it, what kinds of foods to eat, and the like. This is a very important part of the Diet Typing package because the nutritionist will be the one telling you what to do when you go home!

So there you have it! What are you waiting for? It’s time to Eat Like An Animal!
