How Do You Find Time To Cook?

I recently attended a weekend event where 25 friends got together who had not seen each other for a couple of years. Each of us is in a different stage of life, but we all face the same issues when it comes time to putting a meal on the table – how do you find the time to cook?

As you have heard us say in past e-newsletters, it takes a little bit of planning and a dash of creativity, along with the desire to fuel your body (and your family’s) with the best possible fuel to find the time to cook.

Remember, you do not have control over the air you breathe, in some cases, the water you drink, or other factors that you are exposed to. But you do have control over what you put into your mouth. In fact, you have 100% control over it! It’s all about choices! Will you choose to pick up dinner at the local fast food restaurant because you are tired from a full day at work? Or will you plan ahead and have a fresh meal waiting for you when you return home from work?

Will you buy food items that come prepared in a box that you are going to stick in the microwave because they are "quick and easy" or will you purchase organic, fresh food that will provide maximum nutrition to fuel your body, and help prevent the diseases of aging?

The choice is yours.

I truly believe that some people do not realize what they are doing when they microwave their food or purchase so-called "foods" from a box. They do not know how to or never even thought of reading a food label. If they do read a food label, they do not really know what they are looking for. Hidden sources of MSG and other chemicals are meaningless to some people.

Realize that our bodies are having to process chemicals and toxins all day long .We are exposed to so many things, it’s a wonder that we even make it through the day. Look at the diet of some kids and teenagers these days. I was with a group of them this weekend. Do they ever eat any vegetables of any kind? Do they eat anything other than junk-food carbs consisting of chips, crackers, soda, toaster pops, and other sugary foods?

This weekend we prepared some really good food for a group of 25 people. Half of the group were teens/young 20’s. Amazingly enough, when you fed them, they ate the food. In fact, one of the girls said it was the best food she had ever eaten in her life. Hum? What does that say to you? It means that yes, you CAN make good tasting, healthy food and not rely on food from a box/can. Knowing how to read and follow a recipe is just like doing anything else in your life. We at the Hauser Diet feel that it is worth it to feed our bodies the best food possible. Nobody cares about you as much as YOU!

You know one of the things we like to say a lot is "if you eat great, you’ll feel great." This is so true! So first and foremost, finding time to cook comes first from finding the desire to cook, knowing that you are doing something that will help preserve your life. Take it seriously.

After that, it’s a matter of first finding out what foods are best for your body. We recommend Hauser Diet Typing to do this. By testing your blood, we can determine what foods provide you with maximum energy – in other words, the best fuel for your body. Some people need more proteins and fats (Hauser Lion and Otter Diet Types™), where others require less fat and more complex carbohydrates (Hauser Monkey and Giraffe Diet Types™.) Once you know how to eat, it’s a matter of "just doing it" in the words of NIKE.

Make lists and plan ahead
Utilize your freezer and make some foods ahead of time. Buy some of those reuseable plastic containers, label them, and freeze.
Weekends are a great time to make a couple things in the crock pot that you can use during the week.
Sit down and plan out general meal ideas for the week. Then purchase groceries accordingly.
Purchase groceries using an online grocery store such as www.peapod.com where you can shop in the comfort of your own home after the kids have gone to bed.
Buy high quality foods. Get rid of processed foods – dump them out of your cabinets and pantries! Then you won’t even be tempted!
Start simple! Check out the recipes in the animal sections. Start with a few – you’d be surprised at how easy and delicious real cooking can be!

Start fresh!
If you find that you need help getting started or making food choices, we want to help you do that. Give us a call today. What are you waiting for? Finding time to cook is easy once you know what to do! Everyone is strapped for time. That’s what all of us need more of! So we recommend you use your time wisely and efficiently…it’s worth it – for your health!
